Farming Games With Different Twists
Magical, Island Living, Fantasy, Medieval…Or Spooky
Stardew Valley has been out for quite some time, and has solidified itself a spot in the hearts of many gamers. The game still constantly receives updates, and has an active modding community to boot, making sure that the tale of Stardew lives on. However, if you’re looking for a breath of fresh air, here are some games with the same feel and theme as Stardew Valley—with a twist!
Fields of Mistria
Fields of Mistria has been a standout recently in the farming-life simulator RPG sphere, with its inclusive customization options, Sailor Moon-esque aesthetic, and a wonderful cast of characters to boot. Starting a new life in the idyllic village of Mistria, you can be anything you want to be. As you journey through your new life, you’ll also lend a hand in restoring the town to its former glory, as well as discover the magic that flows within it. Jump right into the world of Mistria and discover magic, romance, and adventure!
Fields of Mistria is available on PC via Steam for $13.99 USD.
Coral Island
For a more seaside island experience, Coral Island might just be next on your list. Leaving the big city life behind, you come to Coral Island to jumpstart a new chapter and adventure. Create your dream homestead by the beautiful corals dotted around the island, and help the island bloom again. Farm, explore, dive, and get to know over 70+ characters from all walks of life. Out of the large cast, there’s a whopping 25 of them who are wholly single and ready to mingle! Some love in the air just might make the place more peaceful and harmonious.
Coral Island is priced at $29.99 USD on Steam and on the Microsoft Store. As an added treat, the PlayStation Store version is 20% off until November 23rd at $23.99 USD! It’s also free on an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription.
Sun Haven
In comparison to the games previously mentioned, Sun Haven brings in more fantasy and myth into its game. Hundreds of unique NPCs with tons of maps to explore, there’s a lot of lore and story to cover. With over 30,000 lines of dialogue and constant updates, you will find yourself spending hours upon hours getting to the bottom of things. And one of the best parts—you have no stamina bar! Fantasy worlds really do have it good. Customize your playthrough just the way you like it, and let the sparks fly as you grow and thrive in the magical world of Sun Haven.
Sun Haven is available for $24.99 USD on Steam for PC and macOS. Additionally, it has several DLCs up for purchase should you wish to elevate your gaming experience a little more.
Mirthwood
Stepping away from the pixel art fare of Stardew Valley and its bright color palettes, Mirthwood instead brings players to an enchanting and medieval fantasy journey in the deep forest. Fleeing from your home continent that was ravaged by war, you stumble across a new land—a chance to rebuild anew with a fresh start. Manage your homestead by being a humble farmer, or set off to battle and explore the open world teeming with new things to discover. Fate and your life is in your hands now—take a chance in your new medieval fantasy!
Mirthwood was just newly released last November 7th, and is now available for an introductory price of $22.49 on Steam, a 10% discount from its normal price.
Welcome to Elderfield
While the game is still under development, Welcome to Elderfield deserves a mention as a game that fans of the farming-life sim genre should look out for. It puts a spin onto the classic cheerful farming simulation game, instead making it much darker and spookier. You are a resident of the secluded town of Elderfield, born here…and forever will be here. The whole town is odd, from the townsfolk to the strange beings that shift about in the shadows, as well as weird anomalies that happen every so often. You have a lot of free time—explore the town, earn money, tend to your farm, go fishing…dabble with the Old Gods, talk to the dead, and so much more. Beware though—try not to die in your sleep.
Welcome to Elderfield does not have a release date as of yet, but it is being actively worked on by developer Chris Cote and the dedicated fans and testers over at the official Discord server. If you’re interested in the game, join the server for instant updates!
