Indigo Park: Chapter 1, The Beginning Of A New Horror

Explore an abandoned theme park and discover why it suddenly closed down

Traverse Indigo Park With Your A.I Companion

Say Hi To Rambley The Raccoon

Indigo Park is an immersive first-person exploration game where you, as the protagonist, break into the titular park that has been long-abandoned, after being shut down for good following a horrific incident in the park’s premises. Curious and adventurous as you are, you explore the desolate area where time has worn away most of what it was before. It was once a place full of laughter and music, but now only houses the silent sounds of nature and faded memories.

Gameplay mainly consists of getting around the dark environment, uncovering the secrets held within the park’s walls, and meeting the hidden residents. But don’t worry, you’re not alone in this horror ordeal. No fear, Rambley the Raccoon is here! Previously the park’s A.I. assistant-slash-tour-guide, Rambley is now your A.I. companion and will take over screens and other technological aspects of the park to guide you around and to communicate with you. The game also features a collecting mini-game where collectables are scattered all throughout the funfair, and some puzzles to solve as you try to restore its main power source, all while avoiding the evil that lurks—the very reason why Indigo Park is no more.

UniqueGeese’s Beginnings In Game Development

UniqueGeese, or Mason, is a variety streamer on Twitch focusing on indie and Nintendo games. His love for gaming for all his life has pushed him to finally make his own indie title as a brand new game developer. The Indigo Park series is his first real foray into the game development space. Previously, he created Reincarnated, a fanmade passion project made in one week for the horror game Garten of Banban by Euphoric Brothers.

On top of that, he’s developing the game while being a streamer, YouTuber, and a full-time college student; it is the reason why the game is coming out in chapter form. “It’s only logical to release the first chapter, see how it goes, and then start working on the second chapter,” he said in a YouTube video last year announcing his indie mascot horror game. “Otherwise, I’d have to develop the entire game with the chance it may flop just for me to be sinking that much time and money into this project.”

Much of the inspiration for the game and its setting comes from the developer’s love for amusement parks. “Growing up, I was a huge fan of, specifically, the Disney parks,” Mason said. “Just the amount of ideas I have around like—parody of theme park stuff and different areas that we could develop for each chapter and like—there [are] so many ideas I have around theme parks and because I’m such a big nerd for them.” Some fans have already pointed out the homage to real-life theme parks, citing that certain areas of the game are similar to real rides, like the train sequence at the end looking like a reference to Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway at Disneyland California.

A Promising Start

Considering that this is Chapter 1 of a longer series, the release of the pilot chapter is more of an introduction to the lore and meeting Rambley, hence it may feel like a walking simulator more than anything right now. It is in no way a complete game, which may understandably put others off. Nevertheless, it’s an impressive start to an intriguing passion project. Even at its introductory status, the game still looks very well-made, especially coming from a first-time (or second-time) game developer team. What more could they do in the next installment to come? Only time will tell.

It’s been eleven days since its release on Steam, and it’s garnered over eight thousand reviews with an overall rating of Overwhelmingly Positive. With the number of favorable responses, it looks like Chapter 2 is definitely on sight for the future.

Indigo Park: Chapter 1 is now available for free on PC (Steam).
