Mandragora Needs You As Its Hero

Hack, slash, burn, and rage your way through the Entropy

A Tale Of A Lost Humanity And A Dream To Save It

A Soulslike Metroidvania Set In A Dark, Dark World

Mankind is forsaken—humanity has surrendered to the monsters. The people of Faelduum have accepted their fate, sealed away and hiding behind brick walls and ignorance. Travel under the cloak of the night and take back what is rightfully for the human race. As the protagonist and hero of all, step into a declining world that is slowly being overtaken by the malice that is Entropy. Rally with new allies, and meet enemies and vicious creatures to take down. In this sinister but immersive story written by Brian Mitsoda (Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines), you and your choices will shape the fate of this world.

Gameplay-wise, Mandragora is a 2.5D side-scrolling soulslike, promising skill-driven combat that is equally rewarding as it is brutal. The player character is also able to master one of multiple unique classes, customizing their skills and powers with a satisfying character development system. Allies called Artisans can be recruited to your Caravan and help you unlock better upgrades and craft powerful equipment, making sure you last longer in the deep darkness of the Entropy. Examine every nook and cranny in this atmospheric world with a Metroidvania flair, tearing down crumbling walls and swinging to and fro with your grappling hook.

Backed By Industry Veterans

Primal Game Studio is an independent video game developer based in Budapest and  established back in 2012 by industry veterans who have previously worked in various Hungarian and European development studios, and eventually came together to create their own. As of present, their numbers now total to over 60 team members.

Mandragora is the fourth game in their library, with strategic MOBA Supernova, and upcoming games such as Beasts of Brawlia and Around. They have also worked on other titles, such as supporting products for the League of Legends franchise.
István Zsuffa, Primal Game Studio’s creative director and one of the founders of the company, stated in an interview with The Escapist that Mandragora came about after taking a trip to the Wicklow Mountains National Park in Ireland last 2016, where the dark fantasy vibe of the environment was so immersive and inspiring that “that we spent most of our time just walking on dark forest roads, talking about a game we would love to work on, based on this newly found inspiration.”

Zsuffa also mentions in an 80lv interview and his own post on Reddit that the game also takes inspiration from a variety of different games for different elements of a video game, such as the exploration and structure of Castlevania, the base development of Darkest Dungeon, the art style of Ori and the Blind Forest and Diablo, and a deep narrative “from a game we consider to be one of the best of all time – The Witcher 3.”

A Long-Awaited Passion Project

Mandragora, with over six years of development, is truly a passion project for Zsuffa and his team over at Primal, and they’re still thinking up new things to further polish the game for release. The game looks promising, and hopes to deliver the best of all its inspirations into one game

Mandragora is available to be wishlisted on Steam and the PlayStation Store now! The game will also be coming out on Xbox and Nintendo Switch at a later date.
