2024 Indie Horror Showcase Delivered By DreadXP
Renowned Indie Horror Publisher
DreadXP recently presented an hour-long YouTube video titled The Indie Horror Showcase 2024, highlighting both newly released and upcoming indie horror games. DreadXP is an independent publisher with a strong focus on the horror genre, known for titles such as Amanda the Adventurer and The Mortuary Assistant. The showcase was done in collaboration with The MIX, another game publisher also known for producing high-quality online game showcases. With more than 20 titles featured, here are some of our top recommendations for the most unique—and, of course, terrifying—upcoming indie games from the event!
10 Dead Doves
Set in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, 10 Dead Doves is a narrative horror game that follows the story of Marcus Stetson, a seasoned backpacker looking to relive his glory days with his long-time friend, Sean. For this final trek, the two set out to find the mysterious Ant Farm, one of the most terrifying urban legends to exist.
Immerse yourself in a psychological horror experience with stunning art inspired by early 2000s 3D graphics. You'll solve puzzles, uncover mysteries, and unlock the truth behind the strange dreams you share with Sean. The game also features fully-voiced animated cutscenes and an original score.
Although 10 Dead Doves is set to release in Q4 2024, you can try it now with a demo on Steam. Embark on this eerie journey with your friend and discover (or don’t) the secrets of the Ant Farm!
OMUT
Prepare for a true nightmare in OMUT, a boss-rush action shooter set in a surreal, 2D pixel art world. In this game, you'll face unique and bizarre bosses, each with stages that feel like a fever dream. Beware—these enemies have countless ways to make your battles torturous. However, death is only a lesson. With each defeat, you'll gradually learn how to turn the tide against these nightmarish creatures!
The release date for OMUT will be announced soon, so be sure to visit its Steam page. Enter the abstract and terrifying dreamscape of OMUT!
Dreamed Away
Dreamed Away is a light-hearted RPG horror game featuring a top-down view and charming 2D pixel art design. Follow the story of Théo, a boy who accidentally wakes up in a dark and mysterious world, determined to find his sister despite the horrors that await him. Instead of traditional RPG combat mechanics, the game incorporates unique mini-game-like battles that require timed presses and strategic thinking. Will you venture into the dark recesses of this intriguing world to reunite with your sister?
Dreamed Away is set to release in Q1 2025, but you can try out the Steam demo now to get a taste of what’s to come. Uncover the truth behind your sister’s mysterious disappearance in Dreamed Away!
Sorry We’re Closed
If you're in the mood for a classic first-person horror survival game, Sorry We’re Closed has you covered! Follow the story of Michelle, who has been cursed by a powerful demon. With your Third Eye, you can switch between realities to battle the denizens of hell that are hiding in plain sight. Keep your Hellhound Pistol at the ready—you never know when hell might come for you. Engage enemies from a fixed camera angle reminiscent of early Resident Evil and Silent Hill games. The game features multiple endings, so be sure to explore every possible interaction with the residents of your London borough.
Sorry We’re Closed is set to release on November 15, but you can try out the Steam demo right now. Save yourself from an untimely demise in Sorry We’re Closed!
Security: The Horrible Nights
Who says night shifts are dull and boring? Experience the life of a nighttime security guard at a hospital in this thrilling game. While sipping freshly brewed coffee at your desk, you'll be monitoring security cameras for potential problems. Once you identify an issue, you'll need to act quickly to resolve it! However, this task is easier said than done, as nightmarish creatures and supernatural phenomena lurk in the shadows. Each night brings a new horror story that you must unravel, with handcrafted narratives. If you'd like a chance to see your unique horror story featured in the game, visit its Steam page and share your idea in the "Make a Story for the Game" thread!
The developers have also announced plans for a free DLC coming this November, with the number of featured stories depending on how many wishlists the game receives. If you're eager to experience terrifying tales from other players, be sure to wishlist the game on Steam!
Set to release on November 12, you can also try out the prologue version, Security: Stories by the fans, for free on Steam.
