New Planet, New Gameplay, And The Return Of The Storms

Five years after its initial 1.0 release back in 2019, ASTRONEER is finally launching its very first DLC expansion, titled Glitchwalkers, tomorrow on November 13th. This DLC will introduce a new planet to explore called Aeoluz, crowned as “the biggest and most complex to date.” New, never before seen biomes and challenges scatter the face of this large planet. Aeoluz also is home to a formidable foe, a rogue Astroneer who has taken control of the land and doesn’t cater very well to any strangers descending in.

With new dangers comes new technologies and the need to adapt to these new surroundings. To combat the hostilities and unfamiliar terrain, a new tech tree and modules are added to the game. Survive Aeoluz with the help of these brand new skills and items! There are also new types of resources for you to collect and use, so explore the planet and gather them all—you’ll never know when you need them.

Additionally, a previously removed feature (with some tweaks) is now making a comeback to the game alongside the new content—the return of the Storms. These environmental hazards were exactly what it says on the tin; large cyclones of varying intensities that are full of spinning debris that could damage its surroundings and knock out a player. However, in the Q&A with Creative Lead Joe Tirado, he has clarified that this new type of storm, called Glitched or Hacked Storms, are much different from the old ones, and are part of the new narrative and gameplay of the DLC. As the specifics are tied to spoilers, he declined to elaborate further.

As an added bonus, Glitched/Hacked Storms and its gameplay loop will still be included in the base game as a free update along with some small missions, even if you don’t have Glitchwalkers yet. This can be a good opportunity to test the waters before committing to the full DLC.

Tons of new content, a new story to follow, and hours upon hours to sink into ASTRONEER once again once the DLC releases. Get ready to jump into the mysterious and stormy planet of Aeoluz!
