Deck-building roguelike Balatro celebrates a huge milestone—two million copies sold within six months! As a game from a solo indie developer, reaching these numbers would have been only just a dream, yet with its unique poker roguelike deckbuilding gameplay, it stole the hearts (and uh, cards) of many. It is, indeed, an “absurd milestone,” as LocalThunk said himself in an X (Twitter) post dated yesterday, August 7th.
“I would never have thought that Balatro would be played by over 2 million people when I started working on it almost 3 years ago. I’m so grateful to all the players for giving it a chance and I’m excited to show everyone the next chapter for my game,” said developer LocalThunk in the Steam community post.
Major Update In 2025!
In addition to the 2 million strong milestone, LocalThunk also announced that there will be a major gameplay update coming to the game in 2025. While there are no concrete details as of writing as to what additional features will be introduced, the developers had at least this to say:
“This update will bring new ideas and strategies to the game and as a token of huge appreciation to the game’s brilliant and passionate community, the update will be completely free.”
Based on the announcement graphic showing three cards with only one revealed, viewers can infer that more details will be revealed over the next couple of months, so make sure to stay tuned to the Steam page and the official Balatro X (Twitter) for the latest updates!
