Balatro’s The Witcher 3 Feature Is Thanks To CD Projekt Red Staff Who Love The Game

Geralt of Rivia makes his way to the world of Balatro

CD Projekt RED Loves Balatro Now

Great Games Think Alike

The Witcher 3 x Balatro was a collaboration no one would have imagined to come, and yet here it is as a pleasant surprise—and it’s all thanks to CD Projekt Red’s global PR director, Radek Grabowski, who loved the roguelike deck builder so much that he got “many colleagues onboard” the hype train, “including the amazing folks who run CDPR’s partnerships.” In an X (Twitter) post, Grabowski shared that he often praises video games at work, and Balatro was no exception. This was supported by the company’s PR representative Ola Sondej, who shared in a quote-retweet to PC Gamer’s article that in every meeting, “he'd start with "YOU PLAYED BALATRO YET???" Other CP Projekt employees began to love the game, just in time as one of Grabowski’s friends from Playstack (Balatro’s publisher) messaged him an idea, later becoming the free collaboration update Friends of Jimbo. And the rest, as they say, is history.

CD Projekt Red was even hands-on with the partnership, as the card designs for The Witcher 3 in-game were created in-house by CD Projekt Red artist Olgierd Ciszak. Based on the trailer, the King, Queen, and Jack cards feature Geralt, Yennefer, and Dandelion or Jaskier respectively.

Friends of Jimbo Update With Four Amazing Games

Interestingly, The Witcher 3 is not the only one participating in the collaboration. The big Friends of Jimbo update includes three other fantastic titles, namely Among Us, Vampire Survivors, and Dave the Diver! These titles will have beloved characters featured on the card faces as well.

With five different companies coming together for a well-made collaboration, it was a “career highlight” for Playstack’s PR manager Wout van Halderen. “The industry might be competitive, but behind it all are just people who love games, and that shared passion is what makes these types of collaborations possible. Y'all the best!” he shared on his personal X (Twitter). Grabowski also sang praises about the group team-up, saying that working together was a remarkable experience. “Working on this was a remarkable experience. Having done video games PR for more than 10 years and seeing this collaboration come to fruition was truly inspiring. Five gaming companies working toward the same goal, driven by passion and companionship. Thank you, friends!”

Don’t miss out on the fun! Balatro is available to play on PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One for $14.99 USD. However, there is a special promo at Nintendo Online with a 10% discount, and is now only $13.49 USD until September 3rd!
