Wube Software LTD revealed more information about its upcoming Space Age DLC, specifically the last planet, Aquilo. In this DLC, you will move your manufacturing enterprise to space and encounter new resources and enemies. Manage your factories and streamline resource transportation on planets such as Vulcanus, Fulgora, Gleba, and Aquilo. Develop scientifically advanced robots and structures to process novel resources in Factorio’s Space Age DLC.
Factorio’s last planet, Aquilo, is cold and barren, making it the most challenging map for players. On this planet, you can only build on floating icebergs, which initially limits your building space. But don't worry—the devs have also introduced ice platforms that extend the iceberg, ultimately increasing your build area. However, the construction process is slow and consumes both energy and heat, so plan ahead when expanding your zone.

Despite being a planet covered in ocean, you’ll need a specialized plant to harvest water, as the oceans in Aquilo primarily contain ammonia. Prioritize building offshore pumps and a cryogenic plant to separate water from liquid ammonia, the latter being essential for creating ice platforms.
The last and most important part of this update is the new freezing and heating mechanic. You must ensure that your buildings are properly heated to function effectively. With the limited resources found on Aquilo, you’ll face an even more challenging playthrough in the upcoming Space Age DLC. These new twists will require you to adopt a fresh building strategy!
Wube Software LTD has also teased a new structure called the railgun turret. You can construct this defensive building using quantum processors, which are also required for cryogenic plants. "It has a range of 40, and the damage... well, it starts at 10K." Be careful not to end up on the wrong side of these powerful turrets! The devs are staying tight-lipped about what kind of intergalactic threat might be lurking near your base, so they haven’t revealed why this structure is necessary just yet.
Factorio’s Space Age DLC will release on Steam on October 21 for $35 USD, coinciding with the game’s free upgrade to version 2.0. However, there has been no official announcement whether this DLC and the free upgrade will be available on Switch.
Releasing With Factorio 2.0
The devs are also releasing Factorio 2.0, a free update to the game. With this update, expect a number of improvements across the board, making your logistical operations more streamlined and efficient! It features various and significant "quality of life improvements, performance optimizations, and other small tweaks." Here are the highlights of this update:
⚫︎ Improved train system controls
⚫︎ Improved blueprint building
⚫︎ Enhanced flying robot behavior
There are tons of other fixes and improvements for this free update. Check out the game’s website for more information about Factorio 2.0!
The Industrial Revolution Is Here
Factorio is a base-building game where processing resources and protecting them from external threats is the top priority. It was released on Steam in August 2020, followed by its Nintendo Switch version in October 2022. Currently, the game boasts a remarkable 151,185 Overwhelmingly Positive reviews on Steam, a testament to how fun logistical planning can be!
You’ll start by chopping wood, eventually progressing to excavating ores from the planet’s depths. Each map or planet offers a variety of resources, which may require different types of buildings for processing. Automate production by creating trains, logistical robots, and more. Power your buildings with solar fields, oil refineries, and other energy-producing structures. Naturally, your industrial activities won’t go unnoticed. The locals will fiercely resist your planetary exploitation, so prepare defensive structures and units to handle these threats! You can also team up with other players to build large factories and establish a manufacturing empire.
Factorio is available on Steam and the eShop for $35 USD. Build infrastructure, harvest resources, automate production, and defend your factories against local threats in Factorio!
