Frostpunk 2 is the highly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed survival city-builder from 11 Bit Studios. Within only four days from release, the game has sold over 350,000 copies, surpassing the milestone for covering both production and marketing costs. However, despite this early success, the developers acknowledge that further sales are essential to fund additional content and future updates.

11 Bit Studios celebrated this achievement on Discord, expressing gratitude towards the community that has “melted their frozen hearts” and continued that “the work doesn’t stop here” and that they are continuously working on improving the game with hotfixes and patches of which are going to be announced later.

Frostpunk 2 is a post-apocalyptic, city-building survival game developed by 11 Bit Studios. The game takes place 30 years after the apocalyptic blizzard that has taken place in the original game. Frostpunk 2 expands on the original’s mechanics by introducing new layers of moral dilemmas, resource management and leadership challenges.

In Frostpunk 2, players once again take on the role of a leader responsible for managing a struggling city in a frozen wasteland. The game focuses on the transition from coal to oil as the primary energy source, a decision that introduces complex political and societal challenges. Players must navigate the harsh environment, send scout teams for an expedition to nearby settlements or forage supplies, and ultimately maintain the city’s survival by making tough ethical choices that affect the population’s wellbeing.

Frostpunk 2 Promising Start, but a Long Journey Ahead

Apart from the financial milestone, Frostpunk 2 has also made a notable impression by breaking their own record in terms of player count. According to SteamDB, Frostpunk 2’s all-time peak concurrent players at launch is 35,533, which is higher than the original game’s record of 29,361 peak concurrent players at launch six years ago.

However, despite this strong start in reaching milestones and breaking previous records, Frostpunk 2 still has considerable room for growth in terms of wider commercial success. To achieve this, Frostpunk 2 has to sell more and grow more in popularity and if we’re considering the original game’s roadmap, future expansions and potential DLCs may be possible later on.
