First-Ever “IGF Celebration Days” Event On Steam

Feeling blue about missing most of the Steam Summer Sale? Don’t worry—the Independent Games Festival (IGF) has got you covered! IGF, indie studio Crunching Koalas, the Game Developers Conference (GDC) and a number of other indie studios partnered with Steam to launch the first-ever IGF Celebration Days event on the popular online storefront, with the event running from July 11th to July 20th.

Over 80+ iconic indie games are featured in this massive event, such as this year’s IGF winners like Venba, Cryptmaster, Mediterranea Inferno, and Once Upon A Jester. Notable titles from past IGF iterations also make an appearance, with the likes of A Short Hike, Inscription, Outer Wilds, and Darkest Dungeon II among others. Well-known indie titles such as The Stanley Parable, Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, and Braid are part of the lineup as well. Upcoming games are also included, some with playable demos to try out so be sure to give them a sneak peek if they catch your eye!

Independent Games Festival, Bringing The Best Of Indie Since 1998

The annual IGF is an event showcasing the best of what indie gaming has to offer, and to encourage innovation in game development while recognizing standout indie game developers. Established in 1998, their goal was to “create a similar event to Sundance for independent game developers.” The festival now garners hundreds of entries every year from all corners of the globe, vying for a chance to appear in its event.

Eight major awards are announced, namely Excellences in Visual Art, Audio, Design, and Narrative, Best Student Game, Audience Award, and other uniquely named awards such as the Seumas McNally Grand Prize (innovation, quality, impressiveness, and enjoyability) and the Nuovo Award (a game that executes an idiosyncratic or unusual approach to game development). In addition to the award title, winners also walk away with $2,000 USD.
