Attention, Katana ZERO fans! There is surely something brewing in the shadows for the game. Askiisoft 2D Artist Dave Zhang posted on his X (Twitter) account just today that the studio is “currently seeking a talented Concept Artist” to help out with Katana ZERO development.
The job listing, posted in an online Google Doc, lists out the job’s responsibilities, namely “illustrating environmental mockups of in-game levels based on level layouts, simple drawings/photo references, and/or detailed text descriptions,” as well as lending a hand in suggesting potential character designs, logos, or iconography. An example process from concept sketch to full pixel art has been also included, to give a rundown of what goes on with the job. The position is fully remote and is a freelance job, so nearly anyone with the proper experience can sign up to apply.

There seems to be no deadline to send in applications, as Zhang responded to another user that they will be accepting interested applicants “until we find [sic] decide on someone we like, basically.”
The Future Of Katana ZERO
As of writing, specific details related to this ongoing or upcoming Katana ZERO development has been kept under wraps. The last update from the developers themselves dates back to March 30, 2023, noting that the free Katana ZERO DLC is “still on the way, but there are other stories to be told…”
It’s been a whole year since that post, and they have only broken their silence now about any signs of development from the team. There hasn’t been any confirmation either on what that post meant either, so fans will just have to stay tuned for more updates and hope that Askiisoft finds their perfect Concept Artist in time! Looks like the Daily Katana ZERO DLC X (Twitter) account, a dedicated fan account that is counting the days until the DLC gets released, will have to wait just a little longer. Day 1981, Day 1982…
