The Harrowing Quest Of Saving Your Adopted Daughter

LISA: The Painful is a darkly humorous RPG set in the bizarre, 2D pixel-art wasteland of Olathe. Players follow Brad Armstrong on a perilous journey to rescue his adopted daughter, Buddy—the last known woman in Olathe. Along the way, you’ll encounter a strange and colorful cast of characters, some of whom may even join your party. Do you have what it takes to explore this unforgiving world and face its human (and non-human) inhabitants?

The game features turn-based combat in a side-scrolling world, where you can recruit up to 30 characters and have four active companions, including Brad, in battle. Party members are often found in settlements and shops, where you can also restock for the dangerous journey ahead. The characters, including Brad, struggle with an addiction to Joy—a notorious drug that temporarily boosts attack power and fully restores HP but reduces stats if not taken regularly. Combat also includes a Dial Combo system, where you press specific key sequences to unleash powerful attacks alongside your battle companions.

Throughout the game, you’ll face tough decisions that may result in permanent consequences, such as losing a limb or even a party member’s life. For Brad, losing a limb will increase his dependency on Joy and permanently reduce his stats, so every choice counts. Meanwhile, you can enter your party members in various minigames like Russian Roulette to win amazing prizes with the risk of losing them permanently.
