An Upgraded Game With An “Oomph”
In the week since the launch of its demo, Muffles’ Life Sentence has been garnering positive reception and thus more players as well—BossyPino has been hard at work making sure that bugs are quickly squashed out. In the Steam community post, he shared, “I’m so excited to say that, with today’s patch, the game is cleaner, better looking, and more fun than ever.” In addition to a smoother gameplay experience, he also took the time in between bug hunts to do some “actual design work on every gamers favorite RPG feature—COMBAT!”
There were certain bits of feedback that came in repeatedly throughout the beta testing phase, and even with the newly released demo. Players loved the rather grotesque, but cool looking enemy designs, no random encounters, and the engaging gameplay of the core State bar mechanic. However, there were also parts that left a lot to be desired, such as boring attacks as they lack impact, key terms were unclear, and the combat rewards were nothing special. While there is a lot to improve on, games don’t magically become perfect overnight, and so BossyPino decided to include some of the important tweaks in the first major patch!
Firstly, animation and sound during combat has now upgraded to feel more deadly, dangerous, and thrilling. Animation visuals are tied to the attacks and abilities, short and snappy ones for regular attacks while special attacks are longer and more dramatic with their special effects. Sounds are also processed the same way to be a little more interesting, cutting through the music during critical moments.
Next up on the list is an all around How to Combat guide on the mechanics of MLS, as well as tips and tricks and summaries of the key terms! This directly addresses the issue with certain key terms being vague in their descriptions. “It became quickly clear that these sorts of ambiguous aspects to combat were not going to fly in MLS. And that makes sense- combat is far more strategic and exacting compared to a lot of other RPGs. I wasn’t able to have amazing visuals or real-time mechanics, so I leaned further into making choices during combat plentiful and impactful,” BossyPino said in the announcement post. “One of the biggest goals for Episode 1 of MLS is to build a strong foundation for future episodes, and making combat fun and versatile is a huge part of that. Thanks to player feedback, I’m going to be [able] to craft so many great future fights for Muffles and company.”
“Massive” Plans In The Works
Everything’s going smoothly for MLS since it was launched, and it’s only going to keep improving from now on. Developer BossyPino has shared that there are “massive plans for MLS on the horizon, especially for the Discord, that have been on my mind a lot recently.” These plans will eventually get rolled out as the game gets developed, so stay tuned for updates on the game’s Steam storefront as well as on their social media platforms!
Muffles’ Life Sentence is now available to wishlist on Steam, and a demo for Episode 1 of this episodic dark RPG is also up should you wish to give it a try.
