Nobody Saves The World’s Devs Showcase Early Concept Art In A Trip Down Memory Lane

“Nobody’s seen this concept art!”

Several Early Concept Art Released For The First Time

The Horse Was Decided From The Start, Says Devs

It’s been two years since Nobody Saves the World was released, and developers DrinkBox Studios reveal never-before-seen concept art after taking “a little stroll down memory lane,” with some of them being new to some of the team members themselves!

Firstly, before the final 18 forms were decided on, there were “a whole bunch of forms” that the team thought about adding! From the standard hero fare of assassins and barbarians, to the spooky skeleton and even a cute but terrible little plant…and a horse! The latter of which made it into the game—”the Horse was always going to make it into the game,” they declared. There was even the idea that each form will have a different evolution. However, even if the final idea didn’t work out, some of the evolutions even made it into early versions of the game!

The Ambitious And Huge World Map

DrinkBox Studios was also “incredibly ambitious” with the world map, as shown above. There were so many ideas that they wanted to put into the final version of the game, but making new locations and dungeons was a pretty hefty task—each location called for their own unique tileset and decorations “which sometimes took a long time to do, so we had to get very strategic with what we decided to spend time on.” Although some never made it out of the concept art stage, others ended up being the inspiration behind the content in the Frozen Hearth DLC.

"Cutely" Cartoonish And Icky Enemies, And An Eldritch Horror For A Boss

On the topic of enemies, they were deliberately designed to be “as cartoonishly icky as possible,” an easy feat for their talented artists who seemed to have a lot of fun creating these illustrations of gruesome fiends. “Admittedly, some of them look kinda cute (if you tilt your head and squint your eyes and imagine something cute),” they added.
The Big Bad of the game, called The Calamity, was also conceptualized early as an “unimaginable eldritch horror.” While it didn’t have a drawn form for a long time, the final result definitely manifested what they were originally planned to do…nightmare fuel brought to life. And finally, they also shared some sketches of concepts for the DLC Frozen Hearth and the update The Impossible Dungeon. Fun fact: Jimmy Luna was almost a Jimmy Trash Panda instead!

The Next Big Thing Is Coming Soon

More Detailed News To Follow

DrinkBox Studios also acknowledged their radio silence so far this year, but it’s for a good cause—”We know we’ve been pretty quiet for the last year or so while we work on our Next Big Thing™, surely we’d be able to share some news around it soon right? …right!?” they concluded on the Steam announcement post.

With that said, be sure to follow DrinkBox Studios on their social media platforms to be updated! If you want to get in on the fun, Nobody Saves the World is also on sale right now on Steam, for 60% off at $9.99 USD.
