OneShot: World Machine Edition Steam Release On September 30th

The upgraded version will be soon available for PC users

“Rebuilt” Version Of OneShot

New Engine, New UI, And More

Heads up OneShot fans! OneShot: World Machine Edition, the reimagined and expanded version of the original OneShot, is coming to Steam on September 30th! The World Machine Edition was first released for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, as a way to integrate the game’s unique gameplay into consoles. Now, it will make its way to Windows PC through Steam, introducing an entirely new engine, new UI, new hidden collectibles to hunt for, support for more platforms such as the Steam Deck, and more, such as:

⚫︎ Character Profile “Friends” Gallery, with bonus writing by Noxid
 ⚫︎ Cutscene Art Gallery
⚫︎ Colorful Wallpaper for the World Machine desktop, featuring many guest artists
 ⚫︎ Music Box
⚫︎ Full Analog Movement Control Support

Players will get to interact with a strange computer operating system—a portal into an equally peculiar alternate world. In that alternate world is a young cat-like child named Niko, who is also a stranger to the dimension they’ve found themselves in…but they’ve been given a huge task to revive the sun in this dark, dark world to save all of its inhabitants. Guide Niko through a perilous journey, discovering more about the bizarre world and hopefully save it in the process.

A Mixed Response From Fans

However, this release was met with both elation and skepticism. Many fans were excited to be able to play the game for the nth time, with comments such as “I have never commented on any post or even upvoted it, but this game is just so special, I feel like crying tears of joy. Finally this masterpiece is back!” and “IM WILLING TO PAY ALL MY LIFE SAVINGS TO GET NIKO OS ON MY COMPUTER,” while others expressed their disbelief at why it couldn’t just come as a major update for those who already owned the first iteration, saying “My guess is this is mainly for controller support and so a version can be played on Steamdeck, cause there really ain't a good reason other than those to play World Machine Edition.” and “I'm excited but why couldn't this just be a big update to the original? its not necessary to make a separate game.”

As mentioned earlier, the World Machine Edition was originally a console-only version of the original OneShot to accommodate the game’s unusual gameplay, requiring a virtual machine or desktop of some kind to fully work. Hence, having a virtual machine on a PC to play the game was a turn off to some players, as it “doesn’t seem appealing at all” and redundant. Nevertheless, most of the comments showed excitement for the upcoming release, eager to play it again or to play it for the first time ever.

OneShot is a highly-acclaimed puzzle adventure RPG with unique gameplay mechanics that surely deserves a spot on your bucket list. Mark your calendars for September 30 for the enhanced experience, but if you’re itching to give it a go right now, its original version is available to purchase on Steam, and the World Machine Edition on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
