Singularity 6 Becomes Subsidiary Of Daybreak Games
A Brighter Future For Palia?
Indie developer studio Singularity 6 has been acquired by Daybreak Games (EverQuest, PlanetSide 2, DND Online), joining in its ranks “as a wholly owned subsidiary.” This acquisition follows after reports of Singularity 6’s struggles, which led them to lay off a total of 85 employees in the span of two months.
“S6 [Singularity 6] is an excellent addition to our development studios, renowned for their success in creating large-scale online games and content. Their debut title, Palia, is a fantastic addition to our online portfolio. We eagerly anticipate collaborating with the S6 team to make Palia the best online experience possible across all major gaming platforms and to help continue expand their community of players for years to come,” said Daybreak Games CEO Ji Ham in the press release.
Anthony Leung, CEO and co-founder of Singularity 6, shared that “From Day 1, we have always wanted to forge alternate worlds that help deepen players’ lives – we believe we are on the path to that with Palia and are ever grateful for the initial player reception and support. But we ultimately want to get Palia into the hands of every gamer that wants to play it and we believe that we can best do so by partnering up with Daybreak, who have a proven track record of building gaming communities that last for decades. We look forward to benefiting from their experience, expertise, and investment into Singularity 6 and Palia.”
On Cozy Farming MMORPG Palia
Released last year in August, Palia is a multiplayer online RPG that focuses on building and growing a farm on your homestead, and honing your skills in various tasks, such as farming, crafting, homebuilding, fishing, and hunting. Its charm is mainly in its cute art style, and cozy activities that you can do with friends. The game experience encourages social interaction and attempts to foster a sense of community, with the NPC townspeople and other human players.
Palia is available to play on PC through its own PC platform, Epic Games, or Steam, and also on Nintendo Switch. The game is still on Open Beta, but the Singularity 6 team frequently delivers updates and adds new content. Over four million players around the world have tried out the game, and the game still enjoys a good amount of active players in the thousands.
With Daybreak Games in tow, Palia is inching closer to a full release.
