Still Wakes the Deep is an Unforgettable Horror Experience

Still Wakes the Deep immerses players in a battle for survival against rocky waves, environmental hazards and a lurking threat. The premise is simple but promising, you play as Caz, an electrician working on the Beira D Oil Rig off the coast of Scotland when suddenly, your crew has dug deep into something mysterious that is best left alone.

Nomination for Best Audio Design

Still Wakes the Deep earned its Best Audio Design nomination thanks to its masterful use of sound effects. Every element from the crashing waves, and creaking oil rig to the subtle, spine-chilling noises of unseen danger, or the distant calls of help from your fellow crew members, all create the fearful sense of dread and hopelessness. Moreover, the voice acting in Still Wakes the Deep is absolutely amazing. The Scottish dialect is on point and you can hear the authentic feel of the characters through voice overs, distant comments and dialogues.

This game is filled to the brim with nail biting sequences and audio design that does a lot of the heavy lifting where the feeling of isolation and fear can be felt all throughout the 6 hour experience.

Neve McIntosh’s Stellar Performance Earns a Nod

The Best Supporting Performer nomination goes to Neve McIntosh, who portrayed Suze, Caz’s wife. Her performance provides emotional depth to the narrative and acts as a major driving force behind Caz’s determination to survive. In Still Wakes the Deep, Caz and Suze used to have a happy marriage, however, their relationship has taken a turn for the worst due to Caz’s run-ins with the law. She writes to her husband at the beginning of the game that if he can’t turn his life around, she will be forced to leave him. This backstory adds a layer of tension to the larger horror unfolding around Caz and McIntosh’s performance adds emotional weight that serves as a reminder of what the player stands to lose if Caz doesn’t make it out alive.
