Halloween has become even more exciting with the release of The Spirit of the Samurai demo during Steam’s Scream Fest. This public demo offers a glimpse of what’s to come in the game, featuring Takeshi, one of the protagonists.The game’s Combo Editor is available in this demo, allowing you to assign hits—different attack stances—in various orders to create unique combos. Deliver lightning-fast attacks with your personal combos! Digital Mind Games, the developers, also stated: “In our demo, you’ll have the chance to play through a small portion of the story as the samurai Takeshi.”

“The Spirit of the Samurai draws deep inspiration from the horror tradition, with scenes and monsters inspired by the dark paintings of Zdzisław Beksiński, the monstrous artwork of H.R. Giger, and the uncanny stop-motion animation of Ray Harryhausen,” the developers shared. With this combination of uncanny and bone-chilling artworks, you can expect a truly beautiful yet terrifying environment and enemies. Announced on June 12, 2023, the game has garnered interest due to its stunning 2D stop-motion graphics. The demo is available now on its Steam page, so download it to get a feel for this game.

Three Spirits Bound By Fate

Battle yokai and other Japanese mythological creatures in The Spirit of the Samurai. In this game, you follow the intertwining stories of Takeshi, a skilled samurai; Kodama, a brave but tiny spirit; and Chisai, a warrior cat. Shuten-dōji, the oni, and his undead army are on the march, and your village is the first settlement to fall, but you still have the chance to save it and its inhabitants.

Each playable character possesses distinct skills and abilities that affect how they interact with the world. For instance, Chisai excels at platforming and evading enemies, while Takeshi and Kodama are experts in swordsmanship. Their full abilities are yet to be seen, so watch out for future updates.

The combat mechanics are also quite interesting, as these three characters can assist each other in battle. Chisai can distract enemies while Takeshi readies his katana for a finishing blow. Kodama unleashes powerful attacks and uses a sword to defeat foes, while Takeshi can attack from a distance with his bow.

Combos provide each character with cool and devastating ways to deal intense damage to your otherworldly opponents. The addition of Combo Editor provides freedom to deliver unique combination attacks.
