If you’re looking for a whole new indie horror game to try out this October, check out the newly released Tormenture! This spooky horror game is set in the 80s, where you take on the shoes of an unnamed child, who curiously plays a supposed cursed 8-bit horror game. Legend has it that the game developer made a deal with the devil to attain eternal life, only to result in very serious consequences. It’s just a rumor though…right?
Things quickly turn for the worse when you realize you’re slowly getting pulled into the pixelated world beyond the television screen, and the lines of reality and fiction begin to blur. Find and gather four relics in the vast and interconnected world of the digital game, solving puzzles that are even connected to objects around you. However, be wary…some sinister creatures might be lurking in the shadows. Will you be able to escape from this nightmare alive?
Tormenture is a tribute to the 80s, with the classic 8-bit games as well as the toys from our childhoods like the Speak’nSpell, a Stereo, Guess Who? scattered around your room in-game. Explore the game’s retro world and surreal horror on Steam, available to purchase for an introductory price of $10.49 USD.
Positive Reviews Across The Board
Despite being a newly released title, its Steam reviews have been praising the game for its gameplay, immersive atmosphere, and interesting premise, as a “creepy meta horror with layers to its gameplay and scares.” Another review commented that players who like Pony Island, Inscryption, and Animal Well will surely have a good time with Tormenture as well. While there are some bugs here and there, it doesn’t fully take away from the overall experience. To sum it all up—”Nostalgic, spooky, and so very VERY clever.”
Cap off the Halloween season with Tormenture…if you dare!
