Meet New Friends While Catching Some Fish!
WEBFISHING has captured the hearts of many internet users with its wholesome concept and simple but engaging gameplay. Players are simply tasked to fish as they please, while also meeting other fishers along the way. “Relax and fish (on the web!),” simply put. In just three weeks, the game has amassed a whopping 13,110 reviews on its Steam page with an Overwhelmingly Positive review score, as well as averaging at least 6000 players at any given time. Its players recommended the heartwarming game through glowing reviews, praising it for how “chill and fun” it is, as well as getting to meet amazing people from the community. After a long and tiring day, this indie game became the solace for many weary netizens around the world.
Developer lamedeveloper, also known as West on their official X (Twitter) account, shared their surprise at how quickly the community was growing. In a post last October 15th, they said, “man this lil 4~ month game has taken quite a life of its own that i could have never expected. im so so happy everyone is connecting and enjoying webfishing! eveyones [sic] reactions and content on this game has absolutely blown me away”
WEBFISHING is still in active development, and West has been working diligently as the title’s solo developer. While they have clearly stated that updates will be sporadic due to the fact that they’re working on it alone, they’ve also assured that he is “working on a big netcode/performance patch! It'll come when its ready.”
Popularity Has Its Challenges
Updating everyone to know that, yes, the public discord has been closed. Unfortunately, we were a bit naive and, similar to WEBFISHING itself- didnt expect nearly as many people (or chaos), and it left to us unable to manage it properly. I’d rather have no server, than a bad one.

However, this sudden surge of popularity has also overwhelmed them, to the point where they had to shut down the game’s official Discord server. In two and a half weeks since its launch, WEBFISHING has attracted over 17,000 members to the Discord server, which proved too much for the solo developer and their small moderator team. As quoted from the final announcement on the server, “(Nearly) All of you guys are amazing and I’m glad I was able to have some fun interactions in this server, but considering the weight it became on me, and the other mods- we were all far too inexperienced and lack the time and energy currently to setup proper infrastructure for all 17k (!!!) of you. I’d rather have no server, than a bad and mismanaged one.” A mere few minutes later from the message, the official server was no more.
With that said, the community is still very much active on smaller servers, to which have been advertised on X (Twitter) and other social media following the loss of the official one. And with how welcoming the player base is in general, it won’t be long before you find your own ragtag team of fishers!
An Artistic And Smart Community
I built a fishing reel controller that spam clicks when you crank it so you can catch all the biggest fish in Webfishing pic.twitter.com/RmIIVmIann

As a trending new game, the excitement is at its peak as its insanely active community keeps on going and giving. From tons of adorable fanart and screenshots of their cozy little WEBFISHING avatars chilling by the pond, and even…a fishing reel controller?!
Twitch streamer UWOSLAB, a “mad scientist streamer making insane builds” has taken it the next level by building an insane fishing reel controller for the game. Streaming its creation live, he meticulously put together the fishing rod-shaped spam-clicking controller from scratch, before showing it in action. For his efforts, he managed to snag an Opulent Lionfish! It is quite the feat.
