Wholesome Games For Everyone

Wholesome game enjoyers, rejoice! The Wholesome Games Steam Celebration is now underway, and will last until August 21st. Join Steam and Wholesome Games (@_wholesomegames on X/Twitter) as they showcase “video games that inspire optimism, joy, and introspection.” There will be newly announced games making their world premiere, free demos to give those cozy games a spin, fresh game releases, and large discounts galore. With the range of genres and art styles seen in the featured games, there’s sure to be something for everyone.

The event is headed by the Wholesome Games community, headed by indie developer Matthew Taylor. Its origins stem from when Taylor himself began curating certain indie games “according to their feelings of comfort, compassion, and coziness.” Coming from humble beginnings, the community has then flourished to a whopping 500k members at present across several social media platforms such as X (Twitter), Discord, YouTube, TikTok, and more.

With that being said, here are some of the games exhibited in the celebration!

Newly Released Games

If you’re feeling adventurous and are up for games that just made their debut, Wholesome Games has just got six amazing titles for you.

First up is the easygoing sandbox game where you create the comfiest town for tiny vegetable people, Gourdlets. No story-based objectives, no time limit—let your boundless creativity shine. As your Gourdlet town grows bigger and more of them become happy, you will also get rewarded. Win-win situation!

The second game is still, of course, wholesome, but with a little twist. Just Crow Things is a quirky sandbox game that puts you into the claws (heh) of a wee little crow trying to prove herself to the world. Make new animal friends while also causing your own brand of crow-brand mischief, stealing shiny shiny trinkets from unsuspecting humans or sending down a dung ball on their head. Why? Just caws! Mirth Melody is a free-to-play rhythm game where you play as protagonist Dodo the Duck, exploring the beautiful forest with their trusty guitar, ready to deck out some tunes. Watch the wonderful forest creatures vibe along to your music!

Next is a DLC for a beloved cozy sticker management game, Sticky Business! Sticky Business: Camp Zinnias brings you along to the titular Camp Zinnias, a peaceful summer camp with lots of stories to share, and lots of new nature-themed stickers to be inspired by. Love, Ghostie is a wholesome matchmaking game where you let love blossom in a haunted manor (haunted by you, Ghostie, of course). With 12 residents to mix-and-match to your liking, what love story will be born out of your tiny ghostly hands? Last but not the least, Oddada is a unique game where you create your own blend of cool music! It’s a tactile music maker full of freedom, where the sky’s the limit! Use a different blend of gadgets and funky melodic toys to create your own music track. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have a background in music making or can’t carry a tune—you’ll be sure to make something that’s uniquely you.

Wholesome Games Just Announced Titles

Some games have also made themselves known to the world, but are only available in teaser form right now! Here are a few new titles that are yet to be released, but surely deserve a spot in your watchlist!

Scriptorium: Master of Manuscripts brings players back to Ye Olde Times in the medieval era, putting you in charge of your own manuscript workshop! Receive orders for manuscripts, and fill those pages with wonderful medieval art. As you get more famous across the land, you’ll unlock more jobs, cosmetics, and most of all, new decorations!

Ritual of Raven puts a magical twist into story-based farming simulators—make your magical underlings for the work for you! Enchant Arcana Constructs to grow your own enchanted herb garden while befriending with other magical creatures and magicians such as yourself, and also saving the village from little troubles.

Time for something a little different: a blast to the past! MainFrames boots you up into a byte-sized platformer-adventure as Floppy (yes, it’s an adorable floppy disk), an adventurous computer program looking for their own place in the digital world. Navigate Floppy through various PC frames where they’d need to jump through to properly move through areas, and help them achieve their dream!
