Indie Extraction Shooter With An Early Access Million Dollar Launch
Who says a 2D extraction shooter indie game cannot make a million in just a week? Zero Sievert subverted expectations as it gained 277,966 wishlists during its early access launch and earned $1,380,963 USD in just a week on Steam. Despite its early access status, many players were hyped to play Zero Sievert because of its unique take on the extraction shooter genre and excellent marketing strategy.
One significant reason for their popularity is their stripping down of the repetitive and tiresome online mechanics that most extraction shooters have. For instance, you need to play online and always get ahead or gain an equal footing against other players. Despite the success of Hell Divers 2 and Escape from Tarkov, some players wanted to play extraction shooters on their own time without the pressure of player competition. In Zero Sievert, you don’t have to worry about all that because it is a single-player game to play at your leisure.
Despite receiving modest backing on Kickstarter, the developers released a free early build of Zero Sievert, making the game accessible even to those who might doubt its value and giving them the opportunity to try it without paying. This marketing tactic allowed CABO Studio to generate visibility and attract popular figures from various social media platforms to cover the game.
Despite removing the online multiplayer aspect present in most extraction shooter games, Zero Sievert retained the core gameplay features, such as high difficulty and complex mechanics. Coupled with the developers' generosity, the game gained popularity among extraction shooter fans. By appealing to players tired of online multiplayer games in the same genre, Zero Sievert achieved critical success!
Hunt and Survive In Zakov City
Zero Sievert is a 2D extraction shooter survival game. You are a newly assigned hunter who has to investigate Zakov City and uncover the mysteries surrounding this radioactive wasteland. Receive quests, interact with traders, and modify your weapons in the bunker. However, setting out in the wild is imperative to gain new materials and weapons as you venture deeper into Zakov City.
Each journey is unique in this game via procedurally generated maps. With new hiding and loot locations comes a need to devise a new strategy with each run. In its early access state, you have five maps to explore. Aside from occasional bandits, you might encounter mutated creatures due to nuclear fallout. Watch out for status effects like bleeding, hunger, stress, etc. Despite the different dangers you might encounter in Zakov City, the devs provided a simple set of instructions for you: “Get in, get out, and get better.”
The game is 10% off on Steam for $17.99 USD. The special promotion will end on October 25. Gather resources, mod your guns, and survive in Zero Sievert!
