Zoochosis is Out Now on Steam With Mixed Reviews
Watch out for gross animal transformations!
Becoming a Zookeeper is Fun, Right?
When Zoo Animals Meets The Thing
The highly-anticipated body-cam horror game Zoochosis was released last September 30. In this game, you will play as a zookeeper who basically takes care of animals in the zoo. However, there is a horrifying twist to this job. A parasite of unknown origin is infecting some animals with an unknown disease. Though the zoo animals appear docile at first glance, some harbor a parasite, which can initiate their gruesome transformation.
While feeding and cleaning the animal pens, you have to inspect and monitor the animals for infection. If you encounter an infected animal, you must tranquilize them and take a sample. From here, you will develop a serum to cure this animal of the infection. Just remember, these infected animals are hostiles and will try to kill you if possible. Take the utmost care when dealing with these highly dangerous creatures.
What made it unique from other horror games is the mechanic to actually cure the animals from the infection instead of outright slaughtering or just running away from them. Here, you can save your would-be assailants.
Mixed Reviews and Developer’s Message
Many horror fans were excited when an announcement trailer was released for this game. The gory and horrifying but unique transformation of animals made Zoochosis one of the highly anticipated indie horror games of 2024. This game’s announcement trailer from various channels gained millions of views on YouTube alone, which also sparked discussion about it. Some players even likened it to The Thing, an alien creature that mimics a human being and can transform into a monster.
Despite the great engagement before its release, Zoochosis is currently experiencing a rough patch. The game’s review rating on Steam is currently Mixed, and most players pointed out performance issues, repetitive tasks, not-so-user-friendly UIs, and that the trailer does not represent the game. Thus, many players are quite disappointed upon the release of Zoochosis. However, some players pointed out that this game has potential and more time is needed to keep it up to par. Meanwhile, others are saying that for an indie studio, the game was not that bad. Despite the mixed reviews about this game, only time will tell if Clapperheads will ultimately match the players’ expectations.
Clapperheads also posted a message on Steam one day after its release, thanking all players who bought the game and left their feedback. Most importantly, they revealed that Zoochosis has “23 storylines that lead to different endings,” and your actions will influence the direction of the game’s finale. They also mentioned that each playthrough will unlock a new animal with a new set of behaviors and monster appearance.
Though Clapperheads did not directly address the negative reviews on Zoochosis’ Steam page, they urged players to reach them via their official email account.
